Calvine Road Improvement Project

The Sacramento County Department of Transportation is dedicated to providing a safe and efficient transportation system that achieves community mobility for citizens, businesses and industry within Sacramento County.

Overview

The proposed project will widen the existing roadway between Kingsbridge Drive and just east of Vineyard Road. The widening will accommodate a total of four traffic lanes, two lanes in each direction, with a fully landscaped, raised center median.

Traffic Signals will be installed at Calvine Road and Grant Line Road, Calvine Road and Vineyard Road and Calvine Road and Bader Road. Also, a turn pocket and equestrian/pedestrian crossing will be located approximately 900’ east of Kingsbridge Drive. A traffic signal will be installed at this location to coordinate the movements of the U-turns and equestrian/pedestrian crossing. The length of the U-turn pocket will be 250 feet, which will accommodate 12 vehicles. A sidewalk ramp will be installed with the crosswalk. The center median will have openings to provide left-turns at Bader Road and Carmencita Avenue. U-turns will be allowed at all median openings and signalized intersections. Traffic signal interconnects will be installed on Calvine Road within the project limits for traffic signal coordination

Calvine before the project Six-foot wide Class II bike lanes will be installed on Calvine Road as part of this project. New roadside ditches and driveway culverts will be constructed on both the north and south sides of Calvine Road. The existing Calvine Road Bridge at Laguna Creek will be widened to an ultimate width and will accommodate six traffic lanes, bikeways and pedestrian facilities. An off-street eight-foot pedestrian trail will be constructed on the north side of the road behind the proposed ditch. The proposed pedestrian trail will begin east of Sheldon High School where the existing sidewalk improvements end and extend east to Bradshaw Road. A 12’ wide enclosed pedestrian/equestrian crossing will be constructed over Laguna Creek. A 6’ wide sidewalk will be constructed on the south side of the bridge and will be connected to future sidewalks as development occurs. Rubberized asphalt will be used to pave the roadway and aid in noise reduction from vehicle traffic.

Calvine as planned after the project The project includes the installation of a 24-inch diameter water transmission main along Calvine Road, and a 16-inch and 24-inch water transmission main in Bradshaw Road (16” to the south of Calvine Road and 24” to the north of Calvine Road). The transmission main on Calvine Road will be installed from 3,250 feet west of Bradshaw Road to 2,090 feet east of Bradshaw Road. The transmission main on Bradshaw Road will be installed from 830 feet south of Calvine Road to 950 feet north of Calvine Road. Both transmission mains will be located within the limits of the project and within the public right-of-way except at Laguna Creek. A 250-foot section of the transmission main along Calvine Road will be installed in a 15-foot wide easement north of the public right-of-way where the main will cross Laguna Creek. The transmission water crossing will be installed under Laguna Creek by boring and jacking.

The proposed project will require the acquisition of right-of-way from several properties located along Calvine Road.
