Intelligent Transportation Systems

Transit Priority & Mobility Enhancements
Watt Avenue (Phase 3)

Project Description

This is a demonstration project to install intelligent transportation system (ITS) components within the Watt Avenue corridor to improve traffic management and safety.  The project will be tied into County Traffic Operations Center. Transportation system benefits will include:

  • Improved roadway safety.
  • Improved traffic management.
  • Faster emergency vehicle response time.

Planned ITS improvements include:

  • Real time surveillance cameras to monitor traffic conditions at intersections.
  • Fiber-optic cables to receive information from cameras.
  • A signal priority system at various intersections for fire engines and Regional transit buses.

Preliminary Study, 2006 to 2007
Design, 2007 to 2008
Environmental Study, 2007 to 2008
Right of Way Acquisition, 2007 to 2008
Construction, 2007 to 2008

Funding

The total estimated project cost is $2.5 million and will be provided by Measure A Sales Tax funds (50%) and TEA-21 funds (50%).
