ITS Capabilities
In addition to collecting
and transmitting information to a central location such
as a Traffic Operations Center, ITS alerts agencies and
motorists to delays in the form of changeable message
signs, so travelers can change their plans to maximize
convenience and reduce strain on the system. ITS
also decreases congestion by reducing the number of
traffic incident, clearing them more quickly when they
occur, and rerouting traffic. Through automated
tracking, dispatch and weigh-in-motion systems ITS can
improve the productivity of commercial transit.
