Madison Avenue - Sunrise Boulevard to Hazel Avenue

Project Description

The Madison Avenue (Sunrise Boulevard to Hazel Avenue) improvement project that will provide a number of roadway system benefits including: 

• Improved roadway safety.
• Increased traffic capacity to ease congestion and delays.
• Improved bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
• Meet Americans with Disability Act requirements.
• Beautification of the project area.

Planned roadway improvements would include:

• Widening Madison Avenue from 4 to 6 lanes between Sunrise Boulevard and Hazel Avenue in the City of Citrus Heights and the Orangevale area. Project implementation requires a cooperative agreement with the City of Citrus Heights.
• Construction of a 12-foot wide raised, landscaped median along Madison Avenue.
• Modifying existing traffic signals, sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
• Roadway improvements for ADA compliance, transit access and bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

Preliminary Study, 2004 to 2009
Design, 2008 to 2011
Right-of-Way Acquisition, 2010 to 2012
Construction, 2012

Funding

Estimated total project costs are $25 million and will be provided by Developer Fees and Measure A Sales Tax.
