Watt Avenue Light Rail Bridge

Project Description

The Watt Avenue at Folsom Boulevard Light Rail bridge project will provide a number of transportation system benefits including:

  • Improved roadway safety.
  • Increased traffic capacity to ease congestion and delays.
  • Improved bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
  • Americans with Disability Act compliance.
  • Landscaping of the project areas.

This  project will eliminate crossing delays for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians caused by light rail crossings and will result in improved traffic flow and less congestions for all users of this roadway. Project improvements will include:

  • Construction of a bridge for light rail trains over Watt Avnue.
  • Three (3) through lanes in each direction on Watt Avenue.
  • Dedicated right-turn lanes on all roadway approaches.
  • Upgraded pedestrian and bicycle facilities.

Note: The heavy rail tracks will remain at grade.

Environmental Review, 2003 to 2006
Design, 2004 to 2006
Right-of-Way Acquisition, 2003 to 2006
Construction, 2006 to 2009

Funding

Estimated construction project cost is $23.2 million and will be provided by Measure A sales tax funds (16%), Federal TEA 21- RSTP/CMAQ funds (81%) and Regional Transit (2%).
