MacReady Avenue Reconstruction - Old Placerville to Bleckley

SACDOT has played a strategic role in redevelopment of Mather Air Force Base. Department staff was lead in implementation of federal grant projects that were used to demolish buildings, improve infrastructure and landscaping. It was essential for the Sacramento area economy to have a successful transition from a military base to civilian uses. In 1997, the Board of Supervisors adopted the Mather Field Specific Plan to guide and encourage development of the former Mather Field Air Base. The former base is now becoming a thriving work center.

Project Description

Continued efforts to redevelop Mather include the MacReady Avenue Reconstruction Project which includes the following work:

  • Reconstruction of MacReady Avenue from Mather Boulevard to Von Karman Street. Note: The Silver Wings Street to Eknes Street portion of this project is being handled as part of the Bradshaw Interceptor Project.
  • Construction of 56 foot right-of-way roadway section including: bicycle lanes, standard curb and gutter, adjacent landscape area and bifurcated sidewalks.
  • Street intersections will include plaza treatments and ADA compliant pedestrian ramps and new decorative street lighting.
  • Installation of street trees, landscaping and irrigation systems in accordance with the Mather Field Landscaping Master Plan.

Project work is currently underway and will occur in three phases:

  • Phase 1: Eknes Street to Von Karman Street.
  • Phase 2: Silver Wings Street to Eknes Street which is being conducted in conjunction with construction of the 7C – Sewer Interceptor project.
  • Phase 3: Mather Boulevard to Lemay Street.
