Corridor Enhancements

Laguna Boulevard at I-5 Interchange - Landscape Improvements

Project Description

This landscape renovation project will improve the appearance and maintenance of the Laguna Boulevard @ I-5 Interchange. The project will include:

  • Improved overall aesthetic qualities of the interchange.
  • Re-seeding all bare grass (fescue) turf areas.
  • Planting and/or replacement of trees, shrubs and vines.
  • Pruning of existing trees to encourage structure and health.
  • Installation of rock cobbles in existing swaled areas which are under water in the winter months.
  • Upgrade/replacement of the existing irrigation system with new master controller, master control valve, flow sensor, and booster pump.

These improvements will reduce overall maintenance requirements for the interchange landscaping. Once the project is completed, it will be much easier for County crews to perform routine maintenance at the interchange, resulting in a healthier and better looking landscape and a more efficient irrigation system.

This project is located in Sacramento County at Laguna Boulevard and the Interstate 5 Interchange, which borders the City of Elk Grove. The interchange and landscaping was originally constructed and completed in 1994. The Department of Transportation currently maintains the interchange landscaping as part of a 20-year maintenance agreement between the County and the State of California.

Tentative Schedule

Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2006 and completed by January 2007.

Funding

The estimated construction cost for this project is $350,000 and is funded by the Laguna Creek Ranch/Elliott Ranch Community Facilities District No. 1.
