Franklin Boulevard Streetscape Phase One - Turnbridge Drive to Sacramento County/City Boundary

Project Description

This project is part of a larger cooperative effort along Franklin Boulevard corridor which crosses City of Sacramento and County of Sacramento jurisdictions. These improvements are recommended by the Sacramento Housing & Redevelopment Agency’s (SHRA) Franklin Boulevard Urban Design Master Plan adopted in 2001.

The County of Sacramento’s Phase One portion of this project will extend from Turnbridge Drive to 47th Avenue. Project improvements include the following:

• Reconstructed center medians with landscaping and other treatments.
• Continuous 6-foot sidewalks between Turnbridge Drive and 47th Avenue.
• Landscaped planters separating sidewalk from the roadway.
• Beautification/reconstruction of Martin Luther King Jr. intersection.
• Installation of new traffic signal at the intersection of Franklin Boulevard and Turnbridge Drive.
• Addition of bicycle lanes on Franklin Boulevard between Turnbridge Drive and 47th Avenue.

Preliminary Study, 2003 to 2005
Design, 2004 to 2006
Environmental Study, 2004 to 2005
Right-of-Way Acquisition, 2005 to 2007
Construction, 2007 to 2009

Funding

Estimated total project cost is $5.8 million and will be provided by the Road Fund (6%), Regional Surface Transportation Program (40%), and SHRA (54%).
